More to come!

Defiantly a clover. Do they get flowers on them occasion? The color of flower will tell you the type.

Number one is what i call hay grass it grows in everything here in texas i grow my chicken there own grarden of edible to save on feed cost sunflowers milo oats wheat kale just about any thing i can grow in texas heat i grow for them and everyone eats pulled weeds and grass daily

My hens eat what they like and some weed/plants they leave alone so I am kind of guessing mother nature has a built in detector in chickens to keep them from eating something they shouldn't, but that's just my thoughts after watching what weeds from my yard the hens eat or don't eat. They don't like daffodils and my mother who is an avid gardener told me daffodils are poisonous to many animals. My hens will eat just about any weed I pull from the garden, landscaping, sidewalk, driveway, etc. No scientific or educational basis to my post, just that as long as you have not sprayed chemicals onto the weeds, throw them in to the hens and let them decide what they want to eat or not! I can show my mom some pictures and see if she recognizes any of your pictures and can name the weed, but many look familiar to me as weeds I have in my yard too!

darn it. I learned what this one was last year. I think I am going to photograph and document this time around! lol. I do know that the dark green dull looking weed behind this bright green one is lamb's quarters. Edible. my flock loves it.
The Lamb's Quarter is a People Food here.... We started eating it last year and immedietely started cultivating it for salads... We love it and the Rabbits eat the stem parts after we have picked them clean. They love it!

I'm sorry if I'm asking a dumb question. I've not raised chickens before and don't rightly know, but if I don't use any fertilizers and stuff on my lawn, can I just give my chickens the grass clippings after I mow?

apparently lots of people do feed lawn clippings. I've read that you don't want it to be over an inch in length to avoid balling up in the crop and causing problems. I would also be inclined to scatter the clippings a bit so they don't gulp down big clumps.

The more I learn about edible weeds, the less I want to share with my flock! lol. So far, they get most of the goodies though. They are probably healthier than me. It is fun to watch them and see what greens they are eating. I just hope I have the same bounty as last year. The wild lettuce was amazing. And my first taste of bittercress was an eye opener. So THAT's why they call it bittercress!!! Sure did get the gastric juices going and burping up a storm. The bittercress I encountered was in among a gorgeous bunch of chickweed. I thought it looked different though very similar. After researching and determining it to be an edible weed, I took a big bite. woops!

Looking forward to the lamb's quarters! And I've always enjoyed munching on sour grass (sheep sorrel?) with it's lemon like flavor. :)
