We have 3 chicks who were with a mama in brooder. We let them out in the yard for a bit every day when we are outside. They were right up against house totally normal when suddenly we noticed one was on the ground looking like it was dying. Our dog was running around- not sure if he could have stepped on one by accident or if another chicken could have pecked it but it’s looking really bad. Could this be wry neck from head injury or is it just dying? It’s been about 2 hours since it happened and I was able to get some water and poultry cell in her beak and she swallowed it. She seems very tired. Before taking this video she had her eyes open and was trying to hard to lift her head. Is there anything else I can do? My little girl is devastated. She seems to wake up a bit more now than she did 2 hours ago

I would continue to give her some sugar water or electrolytes, and offer some raw egg or thin mushy chick feed made mushy. Is she pooping? What does it look like? Do you have some chick grit available, since they could be eating grass? Keep her warm. I hope that you can nurse her back to health where she can rejoin her mom.

Yes to pooping. Totally perfect little poops. She can’t walk at all though and keeps her eyes closed most of the time unless you really work with her. I’ve never had one like this and especially so suddenly. She startles awake when I touch her and falls back asleep.

Hopefully she was just hurt temporarily, but she could be sick or have some birth issue. Giving her supportive care in the meantime might help to save her. Let us know how she gets along.

Just picked her up again and she had her eyes open for awhile and held her head up for a short period. It seems like she may just be injured and it’s exhausting her. Just using a Popeyes to trickle in some water and a couple drops of poultry cell every couple hours. One of her feet seem curled up also. Is there any neck injury that would effect all the way down to feet?

Does her foot fell broken?

Chicks can start going outside at 7 weeks. I would not shock them and put them outside when they are only a week old. Going into the "cold" can really cause issues🥰 if it's around 75-80F outside then that would be OK.

No it doesn’t feel broken at all. She looks perfectly normal outside of her body being limp most of the time and not being able to walk or honestly move. Could the dog or chicken have broken her neck? If so is that even treatable?
So she is fine except her neck? Yes, give her vitamins E and B complex. It will help and healed my roosters hurt neck. Can she hold her neck up? If not make a brace (I can send a picture of mine) to hold her head/neck straight up. Let me know if you have any questions!

No I wouldn’t say it’s only her neck. It’s like her whole body is limp. She can’t stand but I can see some movement in her legs and wings every couple hours. She seems so very tired. She is definitely having trouble with the neck though and tries to hold it up but can’t so a pic of the brace would be amazing thank you so much!
