So this is my first batch of meat birds.. My little ones were a week old about .. today.. I have a pretty active healthy little fluff balls. Yesterday i noticed a few with bulges on them in odd spots. When I researched these Cornish X I did learn that they can have issues because they grow so fast. I just didnt think I d see anything so soon like I said about a week old.

A few of them have what looks like a growth...like a tumor.. Right above the wing area.. The bulges dont look fluid filled or like its an infection.. They are soft to the touch and when I touched them it didnt appear to upset or hurt the chick at all. So Im wondering if this sounds normal.. Should I be worried.. I can add Pics if it would help. I just dont have them on this PC .. but can do so in morning.

When I posted this question in another site forum I got alot of "Its a Cornish X so its normal" repllies.. So i wanted to try here and ask other Meat chicken raisers :) and see if anyone has any insight..

Thank you

I think a pic would help. We have raised Cornish X's for 12 and I have to say, I have never had anything like what you are describing. But if they are only a week old they should look like a little round butterball. What you may be looking at could just be their shoulder bone. :idunno

I'm wondering if you're seeing their full little crops after they've eaten? Is the bulge on one side of their chest in front of their wings?

I agree with SIMZ

My wife commented on that issue with our x's.

I would bet you are looking at full crops. If you have started restricting their feed, check your chicks prior to feeding the next morning.
