I have a week old silkie chick that I noticed has a bit of labored breathing, not terribly though. She shakes her head and scratches at her beak so I thought something was in her nostril but I noticed her beak was cracked below the skin. Could that be why she's breathing heavier? The rest of the chicks are fine. She's in a tub with heat lamp at about 90 to 94 at the warm end in my reptile room which stays at about 85. She's eating and drinking like normal.
They were exposed to rodent mites from some unknowingly infested feeder rats that I had in the room, and I'm going to treat them tomorrow with the poultry dust. So some of them were scratching and shaking their heads from that and I saw them smack their beaks on the side of the tub, so maybe that's how she broke it? Do I need to do anything to fix the beak? I'm more worried about the labored breathing. Hopefully the video works. What do you all think?
