my chicks actually are not a week old, they will be on Monday. We have been having lots and lots of rain this spring and there have been some teeny tiny earth worms out and I put some in for the chicks.. after they stared at them for a while, they figured out they were food and went to town.. it was very fun to watch.. so heres my question.. if I treat them, do I need to give them grit? what kinds of food will warrant grit? They loved the worms and went to town when they figured it out. I cannot believe how big they are getting but I love them so much, its fun watching their personalities come out. I just want to make sure what im doing is ok.

If you give them anything other than chicken feed they will need grit to break it down. To be safe I would not give them any treats without grit. I'm not sure but I think anything that dissolvs in water might be ok without it but I wouldn't take a chance. Grit is what actually grinds the food down so it can be digested. without grit it wont break down.

I will get them some first thing tomorrow. so the question is what do you do with the grit, I mean do you sprinkle it around? put it in a seperate dish? Im so new and Ive done so much reading but still seem to have so many questions.
