Hello, would a feeder which requires approximately the weight of a chicken to open the lid be a good way to keep out rodents? Would it be a reliable way to feed my chickens?

We have one of these. If you can find a way to stop your birds from flicking food from the feeder to the ground, which will attract rodents, it could be a good way to keep the mice out. We need to fashion a grate of some sort to keep them from flicking feed about. Until them, their main meal of fermented feed is solving both the waste and rodent problem.l

Yes, I have two that keep out everything but the chickens. If you have rats you might want a metal treadle feeder. Keep in mind that there is some small amount of training for the chickens to learn to use it.
