Weightloss Goal

The kids start school on Tuesday, and I start my lovely job as crossing guard. But my best friend isn't working this year, so I'm hoping that we can walk together after I'm done for the morning.

All the fast food stops today. It is just too easy when you're busy to pick something up. I need to get back into the routine of having meals made and frozen. I've lost about 15 pounds in the last year, and kept it off. It's not a lot, but it is staying off.

I eat less when I get regular, moderate exercise. The exercise become a positive feedback, but it is just getting out and getting going that is hard. It should be easier with a friend.

It is also too hot. Texas in August is rather like Hell's backdoor.

I don't exercise other than tending to the birds all day. I am not about to jump around in place when I do physical labor all day long. We walk our acreage gathering firewood in fall which gets me lifting and hiking. I do have light hand weights which I use before going to bed and do leg lifts in bed, but that is all I do. I can't do "programs" because that makes me think about food and eat more than I normally would.

It's great to hear that you all trying to lose weight. Obesity is a real health problem. I live in Texas, and statistically 1 out of 3 people are obese. Obesity commonly leads to diabetes, hypertension and hypercholesterolemia. If you lose the weight, you improve all three diseases and more. The theory in losing weight is simple: burn more calories than what you take in. That also means that doesn't matter what you eat, as long as you can burn more calories than you comsume than you will lose weight, I can guarantee you. For example, if I eat like a pig 4000 cal a day, and burn 4500 cal in the same day, I will lose weight. Some people are so hung up on what kind of food they should eat, but think about it fat gives you the most cal per gram, followed by protein, followed by carb. So if you eat a chunk of lard, say contains 1000 cal and do cardio exercise for 1 hr to burn 1200 cal, you still lose weight. Losing weight requires long term/ life time commitment, and not a few months. It requires habit change, i.e. choice of food and active life style, which is quite difficult for some people. Count your calories, weigh yourself every day to see your progress. Realistice goal is to lose 1 lb per week, 4 lbs per month til you reach your ideal weight. If you are eating less and exercising and not losing weight, than you ain't doing it right. You still eating too much and/or exercising too little. Good luck and have fun losing weight.

Andy

yes Andy, that is right. If you don't commit to it as a lifestyle then you will only revert. Much like a drug addict that goes to rehab and gets clean then drives past his drug dealer or in most of Americas cases, a McDonalds, however a double cheeseburger is legal. I am beginning to think that so many fast food places should be made illegal. I have 6 in my town within a bloack of each other, and that is JUST the fast food. I, myself, plan on making this my lifestyle, not saying, OH yes let me lose 40 lbs and then I can return to what I was eating before. No. This is a decision to get healthy, nothing more, nothing less.

Since cutting out all the sugar from my diet my moods have been better and my patience has much increased as well. I am glad so many of you are joining in on this and I hope that we can all succeed in our weightloss ventures. Good luck all!

Step in the right direction.
I don't diet, I think that word sets people up for failure.
There are certain foods I cannot eat. I feel better and stay slim by not eating them. Its hard and I am not joking but I can't eat sweets or sugar......period!
I get my sweet fix from fruit.

Carbs.....it's those evil Carbs.........I am a Carboholic !!! I admit it !!! I love Carbs.........nasty little devils !!!!

The Carbs did it...I know it...Carbs have an evil power over me....I need to have an exorcism to get rid of the carbs control over me !!

I suck at diets. The last one I had success on I had to work out roughly 3 hours a day 7 days a week and was eating roughly 800 calories a day. Hey I was 22 and desperate for short skirts. Anywho the doctor nixed that one when I got to sick to work out anymore. After having 4 kids nothing seems to work. So recently I just gave up. I quit my last failed diet and decided to chill out. I have anxiety attacks so I figured I would work on those instead. So I cut out sugary drinks and all my caffeine. I started eating regular small meals. Started a couple hobbies to keep my mind active so maybe I would be too busy for the anxiety attacks. I even got these nice herbal pills that are supposed to lower your cortisol levels and relax you so I could start getting a decent amount of sleep again. Called stressless sleep. Sounded like something I would need. Well the anxiety attacks are still here but I lost 9 pounds.

If just cutting sugar and caffeine out, staying busy, and getting more sleep can do that in a couple weeks with no effort then image what would happen if I added more physical activity. Man I need to talk the kids into earlier bedtimes so mommy has time to go running or something. I'm going to keep up with this topic. I hope you guys do great and hit your goals.

can we talk about salads?

I ate three yesterday. all the same. Romaine lettuce ( maybe a cup?) 1/4 cup cheese ( once low fat feta, twice parm) 1 roasted red pepper, 1/2 an artichoke heart ( ok, so the AH was from the antipastbar at the groccery store and I THINK marinated in olive oil and herbs. dressed with straight balsamic vineager...

how 'bad' is that salad? how can i improve it? I think it would be tasty with some grilled chicken . Or tuna.

I DO have a slice of bread with it, but I am switching to french bread or baguettes sliced into 1/2 inch sliceshw. Because i still GET a slice of bread, its just WAY smaller.
