Weird “Goop” hanging from my hens tush!

It looks like an egg shell membrane, from a broken egg inside the vent. If you pull it out and decide that it what it is, you may want to treat her with some Calcium tablet daily for 3 days, and give her an antibiotic, such as Baytril (enrofloxacin) for 5 days to help prevent infection in her egg tract. Here is a link for that:

Ok. Where can I find those items?

:eek::eek::eek::eek::eek:What a shot!
It really is a good photo that tells a story! A lot of times you will never see this at all because the other hens will gobble that up quickly so the "evidence" is gone. You may see the "after effects" in the hen especially if the membrane ruptured and spilled it's contents while in the oviduct.

I have found several of these stuck just inside the cloaca, which is one of the reasons why I always check inside with my finger.

I have not found one stuck inside, but...I did have a hen that had some problems like this enough so that if she was out in the run acting like she needed to lay an egg the others would follow her around. She never needed help expelling it that was for sure, as soon as it appeared it was snatched and a chicken chase began:rolleyes: I tried to keep watch for her being stalked, so I could go get her, but sometimes I missed it.

I'm sure some of mine do that too. The times I've found them stuck in hens those hens were looking quit sick, so automatic vent check and removal of membrane and start antibiotics because they were looking so sick.
