45 three-week-olds in a tub sounds overcrowded to me. At that age they love to run, fly, chest-bump each other. Mine have a small run and there's only 12 of them and they never sit still till they have worn themselves out - then short nap and back to foraging, scratching, flying around. Can you make a temporary run for them to play in and see if they suddenly get more energy?

The laying on side with wing stretched out is a sun-bathing technique. Mine will find a sunbeam or the beam from the heat light and run over and lay down under it stretching out like that - but they only stay there a moment or two - then off to play again.

sunnysidecluckers - Mine (just one) just stretches her leg, then her wing, and then just kinda slides down to lay in that exact position. I agree that looks like she's sunbathing. But she's sleeps like this for a few minutes and then someone will stomp over her on some mission and she just gets up and joins in all the fray. No one has been acting drunk or lethargic. The one that does the "stretch and nap" :0 is the biggest chick (EE) I have. Maybe I'll name her "Stretch"

Where are you keeping them? In the house? What kind of heat are you using? Do you have a carbon monoxide detector?

We thought we were going to lose our finches, but it turned out to be our heater. Check the pilots on the cook stove also.

Birds are the first to show signs of carbon monoxide poisoning.

You will feel a lot better yourself if you find the source of the problem.

They are not over crowded. THey have been sepereated in to different tubs. The vast amjority of the chicks are out side in a brooder with adequate light, venelation and food.

We lost an Easter Egger yesterday and have a Polish that is going down hill fast too. These chicks were primarily, White Rocks, Black Australorps, Delawares, Blue and Black Cochins. There were a few Easter Eggers, Speckled Sussex, and Silver Laced Polish. The Delawares all seem to be carrying this mysterious illness, a few Polish, all but 1 EE, and a few cochins.

Everything is clean and sanitized and well venilated. The sick chicks, which is about 15, are seperated in a water tub inside. I nor my other chicken buddy (she's on here just don't knwo her forum name, off top of my head) have seen anything like it.

We have both raised many chicks and never seen anything like it. Maybe I can load a video of them to show you. It's really weird.
