Weird and really random question about chickens sleeping.....

Sorry, I have nothing to add to this thread, but would like to thank the contributors for some very interesting reading.

My birds are tamer than a bag of ravens I suppose. We are a fairly utilitarian outfit, our birds are not pets for sure. You may have luck getting your hands on one or two during the day, maybe. At night, sky is the limit.

Most of mine are not pets either although the pet birds allow some of the more interesting observations. Pasture birds I must literally sneak up on at night and when one bird is disturbed the entire flock of 100+ birds awakens,

Sitting and watching chickens in the evening is a great idea--better than watching a movie. Thanks for the info and suggestion. I can hardly believe how enjoyable chickens are to watch. When I first had a horse, I would love to just stand and watch her interact with the others in the pasture and it was fascinating; chickens are more interesting in many ways because birds are harder to understand in my mammalian brain. And I don't have a degree in biology or zoology but there are times I regret becoming a nurse instead of a wildlife biologist. Animal watching is so entertaining.

Most of my girls will NOT allow me to grab them during the day, but sit as though dumbfounded at night--you can do anything with them. I really suspect they cannot see well at all in the dark.

Mine take after their mama (me!) they most certainly sleep well... I've only once or twice caught them still awake and I go out to tuck them very soon after they go to bed because I'm so afraid of the predators. That means they are sound asleep in chicken dreamland at 5pm this time of year! Shameful!
