I picked up these two barred rock pullets a week ago, they are around 16 weeks now, maybe 15 can’t remember. Anyway, the one has a tail that resembles a cochin tail. Both birds are the same size body wise, the one with the “cochin” tail has lighter barring coloring. (Not even sure if I’m spelling it right 🤷‍♀️)
Neither has feathered feet. Can anyone tell me why this one’s tail looks different? They both make the same sound, typical pullet sounds. I’ve had young roosters before and none of them made those sounds. So I’m not even thinking it’s a rooster, just wondering what’s up with the tail.

…. I think is a cockerel? The lighter barring and reddish comb and wattles seem suspect - and the tail shape.

Can you take a picture of one of their saddle feathers over some sort of paper or board? Barred birds are a lot harder to determine male saddles. Their combs don’t look super red to me personally though. I am leaning towards pullets

It’s a pullet, not sure why that’s being debated.
I’ve seen this before with well-bred BRs. Females will sometimes have strange, short, rounded tails that look weird. It may grow out, but it may stay the same.

it looks like a pullet based on the comb. Your photos are a little hard to see in that lighting.
