I have a hen that has been quarantined for about 30 days.

Over this time I have noticed that she is odd..... Weird... Her beak is opened a bit not gaping or gasping, and she doesn't want to leave the cage but not latargic, and seems "slow". The other chickens tried to kill her, and I do under stand about pecking orders... But.... her poo is normal her breathing her food eating.... she is just weird and described by someone else as "creepy".... what should I do?

I have a bird thats the same way, just kind of different from all the others. She does the half open mouth thing often and runs kind of spazzed out. she is our "Nerd bird" as my daughter calls her. She has the small coop all by herself, during the day we let her out and she avoids all the others and kind of runs/jumps away if any come close. She will not go further then maybe ten feet away from her coop. The other birds pick on her without mercy so we had to separate her and its not gotten any better because she just won't fight back at all. Whats funny is she is pretty large and the other day I noticed a very small blackbird dive bombing her for no apparant reason so now even outside birds are flying in to pick on her. The positive part of this is with all her one on one people time and lack of any chicken friends she is the tamest sweetest bird we have. She will literally just jump up on my arm when its offered to her and then stay perched while you scratch her head and she goes to sleep.

I talked to someone in our area and the breeder I bought from might be someone who is known to inbreed...... She hasn't laid and now I need to get rid of her... The Roo won't breed with her, and I was told if he won't breed with her then they know something is wrong and will try to kill her...... I don't' know about that but that's what I have been told .

Inbreed, thats an interesting reason to explain their offness. I got mine from a local feed store so have no idea it thats the case with my bird. She was totally normal as a chick though. She is about due to start laying soon (the Wyndottes we got with her just started) so it will be interesting to see what happens there. Even if she never lays we'll keep her as a pet, she's got a lot of personality.
