I saw my chickens laying down and throwing sand on themselves what are they doing and why? It's really weird.

I saw my chickens laying down and throwing sand on themselves what are they doing and why? It's really weird.

They do that to help keep themselves healthy and keep parasites at bay. If you're in an area of the world where you get winters with snow...it's best to have a dust "bath" for them to dust in their coop.

Wild birds dust too.
