Weird Comb?

Are modified pea combs a result of the mix? How can you tell a modified vs unmodified. I'm still learning and look before asking for sure. I love this site, its given me so many answers, and sighs of releif!
Modified pea combs don't fit as tight to the head and look like a cross between a single and pea comb. To my understanding this is because the bird only has one copy of the pea comb gene rather than two. I don't have reason to believe yours has a modified comb :) Here is some examples of pea comb variation in pullets shown by my Brahmas who all have un-modified pea combs. Just some natural variation!

Awesome, I will keep an eye out for that! Thank you, I really wish I knew what she was mixed with, her plumage is just wonderful and so detailed with the partridge coloring.
She is very pretty! With these sort of EEs, they're not first generation mixes. They've been bred EE to EE for years :) They become their own sort of "breed" or "strain" in a way!

First, your ladies are lovely. Thank you for that, it truly helps. This us her and my other EE who is laying (as of Monday), but I'm glad it's normal to have a comb as flat as hers. This photo was taken this morning so it's the most accurate one I have.

Thank you! Yours are gorgeous as well. I suspect their comb sizes will become much more similar once she starts to lay too. Might not be quite as big but definitely more comparable. I think right now the big difference is mostly maturity rates rather than final comb size! :D Good luck with your ladies!

Thank you, I can't wait to see her at full maturity. Thank you for all the help and explanation!

Yep, its one single comb gene cross one pea comb gene I believe. I will get pictures soon of this cross once they start to get larger combs.
