Hey there,

I have1.5 week old Silkie/Cochin who seems to have something going on with its crop. It sticks out an odd angle to the right; leading me to think it either has a very full crop or is a little disfigured. The crop area is quite hard. It has a heated brooder, chick starter grower crumble, vitamins, and I just added grit today.

It also had a tough hatch, and I realized very late in the game that my old incubator was not keeping humidity or temp as it should be. I switched incubators and the chick hatched fine, but not sure if that may have contributed to this issue as well.

Pics attached. Any advice would be very appreciated. Thanks!

Lauren

That's one full crop. :). Temps wouldn't cause that. Watch it, pretty sure he's just pigged out. I e had them get full like that.

Difficult to tell. Could be well fed or just inflated with air... yes that can happen. If it continues to swell to a point that prevents her of moving normally and constantly falling on the sides it could be an air inflated sack. I’ve only had it happen with inbred quails though. If it’s an air inflated sack it’s not lethal if treated with a needle and a bit of gentle squeezing every once in a while. Though to me it looks more like she’s simply well fed, air inflations look very severe to a point where the chicks neck looks like a balloon that’s about to POP.
