Weird egg color?

Hello! My one RIR just started laying eggs two weeks ago and she was laying every other day. She layed yesterday and she decided to lay today too. It was definitely her egg because she is the only one laying. To the point, this egg was the same color but had all these white speckles all over the egg? The egg seemed fine just the shell was like that. Is this okay? Is this Normal? The left egg is the one she layed to roadway right side is yesterday. Thanks!

Egg color can change slowly during the course of a laying cycle generally getting lighter as the cycle lengthens. That almost looks as if a second hen is laying.

The white speckles are the 'bloom'. It's nothing to worry about; some hens produce a lot of bloom, some none at all. Generally, though, if a hen produces eggs with bloom, all of her eggs will have it; I agree with @sourland that you likely have two layers, but it is possible that it is just a blip while she's getting the egg-laying business down-pat.

It’s the same hen because I check the nesting box and she is the only one in there.

The color coating can change daily, especially with new layers.

Perfect time start doing this is when a group of pullets are starting to lay.


'Speckled' eggs can happen for several different reasons...very few, if any, of which are a 'problem'.
Can be caused by:
Excess or uneven pigment coating.
Excess or uneven cuticle(bloom).
Excess calcium deposits.
Porous eggs can appear speckled.
Some birds lay them consistently, some only once in awhile.
The pigment or bloom can change appearance when wet, then change back when dry again.

As long as bird is getting a good diet and is healthy in every other way, it is no cause for concern.
