WARNING - slightly unappetizing/graphic pictures.

Hi all,

I found a weird egg today in a nesting box. I think it may be a lash egg, but I just want to be sure.
A little bit of background info: Two of my chickens have not been laying eggs for a few weeks now, the other one has. I wasn't too worried about them not laying eggs because they are still very fit, and we had some very weird weather lately (snow one day and then a few days it was warm enough to wear shorts) which I thought might have affected them laying.

If it is a lash egg, what do you suggest I could do?

I don't know a lot about that but I found a link. I guess the only way to know is to crack it open.

It looks more like a weird egg since it contains egg yolk. She may be suffering from salpingitis or an infection, but it may be just a blip in her laying. Hopefully it will clear up and she will lay normal eggs. Do you feed layer feed and put out a container of crushed oyster shell for your hens?

Yes, I feed them layer feed and I also give them crushed oyster shells. They're not very young, about two and a half, so I hope it's just a blip in her laying. I'll continue to keep an eye on her, as well as the other two hens which haven't been laying.

Have you figured out what was wrong? I found almost exactly shaped mass in the nest box yesterday. Two of my 3 chickens laid eggs today, the other one was actually sick recently and had a round of antibiotics, and I am not sure if she is laying at all. So it's most likely her.
