Chicken laid red ball :(

One of my hens, I think it was my oldest (3 years old) laid this ball, it looks like it is filled with blood.

I checked all their vents for blood, and they are all acting very normal, so I cannot tell who laid this today.

Any ideas what it is?
 
If it wasnt so weird that'd be kinda cool lol. I've heard sometimes when there older they can loose an ovary? They have two but only use one...if shea acting okay and there's no signs of pain or anything Id say just call it a fluke. Maybe it's a fairy egg that got a little bloody? Looks almost pink in the pic. Have you tried to open it?

No, haven't opened it yet. I will let my son do those honors :).

The ovary they don't use atrophies and sort of shrivels up before they even start laying...
 
Sometimes hens lay eggs without shells, and other times they lay bloody eggs. I have had both of these happen. But cut it open and tell us what it feels like.
