Hi all, When I went out to gather eggs this afternoon I found this egg. My chickens are brand new layers. I’ve never seen anything this weird before.
the outside is soft and squishy like a stress ball. I think the thing that I’m most weirded out about is the weird slimy type thing Connected to the egg. Any advice one what it could be? Why was this squishy egg laid?

New layers can lay some pretty funky eggs on occasion and I think this is one of those times. To me it looks like membrane that would usually then be coated in calcium, but it looks like 2 eggs were in the pipeline at once and one ended up going through too fast and attached itself to the other. Or something like that. Don't eat it but don't worry too much and once your girls work out the kinks you should get very few weird eggs.

That’s is odd!
I just found a weird egg too when I cooped the girls for the night. One of them laid this while on the roost. It’s soft and I think would have broke open if it wasn’t for the tarp poop catcher.

I think this was laid by whichever chicken is laying double yokers. My girls are new layers too.
