So what do you guys make of this??

We just got back from a weekend trip and I found this in the nest. My neighbor was watering the hens while we were gone and he was to keep all of the eggs. There was one softshelled egg in the coop and these three eggs this morning (dont know if they are from yesterday or today). WHY IN THE WORLD ARE WE GOING BACK TO LAYING BABY SIZED EGGS???? I kinda find it funny how I keep this thread going with new crazies every week while I am listening to others who have had 20 chickens for years and NEVER have had any issues. So, now, why is there such a small eggy in my nest??

Conny

Fergie, no the food is good. It's been a problem for almost 3 months now. They have gone through enough food to rule this out. Also the others are laying fine and they do get tons of vitamins through greens and yogurt.
But thanks for the input.

TA-DA! My new henstein castle! (THE HENTON RESORT AND DUST SPA). Since it was taken I have written 'Nix Chix' on the front (cuz my name's nick) and a cute little rooster handle on the nest boxes! Enjoy and thanks Conny! TA-DA!

What an awesome name for your coop. Very creative! I like it a ton.
Good job on the coop. Are you going to adorn it with garage sale finds??

Lorelei is still laying the soft shelled eggs. I find them every other day under her spot on the roost. No clue about the little dinker. There was only ONE egg there today. I don't know if it's the heat - we had 94 degrees today. Who knows.

Hope she gets her act together because I just don't want to kill her.......

wow. ill take her! well i would if i didnt live 6 hours away from u haha. prob the heat... i hope loreli
isn't conteagous. wynette?

thanks for the coop comments! i shall! im also going to paint my chickens' feet and stick the feet on the wall for chicken footprints!

and add another temporary run near the nest boxes because they never get to free range in the yard. (neighborhood cats EVERYWHERE)

So, she is still laying only softshelled eggs. As for her belly it seems that the feathers are coming back. She has a ridge of feathers from her sternum downward. The other two as well. I still don't know what to make of it.

They are supposed to be laying well through summer - argh and now fall is here. It started raining and I am just not happy...... If I only knew someone who'd do the dirty work for me so that we can eat her at least.

I feed layer crumbles, and if I don't offer oyster shell, my hens lay thin shelled eggs. Oyster shell is cheap by the 50lb bag, so I'd say get it!! lol I offer mine in a cat food feeder and they love it.

I haven't finished reading your thread, so I don't know if this has been said. I just thought that it's possible that the other hens aren't letting this one hen get to the feed and calcium? If she's not near the top of the pecking order, this might be part of the cause?
