Found this egg in the coop today. It wasn't cracked open, but when I did this was in it and there wasn't a yolk in it. We have been having a lot of squishy eggs at the moment and also very bumpy ones. Also out of 6 hens were only getting around 2 eggs a day! They do have an infestation of lice, but I am treating the at the moment with powder. One of our hens has a massive red swallen bum and has had it for over half a year. I think she may be laying the squashy eggs? Could the lice be causing this? Here are some pics:

Not sure what to say about your hen's bum. The shell with no egg is something that happens sometimes. You might try adding more calcium to their diet to try to increase egg laying and also remedy the shell-less eggs. We had a hen that was egg bound and has only laid one egg all month. It had no shell and it broke when she stepped on it. We're hoping once she's back to perfect health she will start laying again. How old are your hens? I also read it happens in older hens as they approach the end of their laying cycle.

They are all about two years old, but three of them are ex-battery hens and we have had them for about a year. I will add more calcium to their diets to see if that helps.

I have tried all I'v read on the internet and put a few posts on here, but nobody seems to know what it is so I'm not really sure what to do?

I have been reading around and found a fungal disease called moniliasis. the symptoms include swollen vent area as well as white crust, poor egg laying and ruffled feathers. They get it by eating mouldy food and we have been having to get rid of mouldy food which they have been spreading all over the floor for a while so she could have eaten some of that?
