Weird growth in hen abdomen

While processing some 5yo freeloading hens for the freezer we found this in one’s abdomen. The thing is layered like an onion and had a leathery texture. In the center was a golfball size pocket of odorless milky liquid.

The hen was acting her ornery self right up till she found herself upside down in a cone.

Any ideas? Will the breast meat be ok to eat?

Thanks

That's a huuuuge lump of lash material! Holy moly! Idk about eating the breast, but I know that bird had a RAGING infection in her reproductive system. You did her a favor by putting her out of her misery.

Think we’re going to toss the meat. Wish I’d realized it might be contaminated before I’d thrown it in the pot with the rest. @5yo I figured they’d all be tough/rubbery so I just breasted 4-5 of them. Being the curious sort I then wondered why her gut seemed so tight so I opened her up the rest of the way. Not worth 🤮

The breast might be fine, but I don't blame you. Ew
