Weird growth / sore

One of my Arucana hens has this growth under her feathers on her back. She is limping a little too. Any ideas?

It's located near the center of the back a little off to the left hand side of the spine.

Does it look like a scab inside a crater? That could be a type of skin cancer, but better pictures might help. How long has it been there?
