OP said the sores were under her wings too, that's what's so confusing about this.
Be sure that skin under wings or hidden dries up a bit after you apply your ointments/treatments. Moisture is going to make things worse I would think.
There are other threads here with similar scabbing/sores, skin issues.
Yes, on the face, skin/body, under the wings. So, I'm not that surprised.
Most of the birds seem to be Silkies, but I've seen a few threads where it was other breeds.
What is it? I don't know. I haven't been able to nail it down and afik, no one else has either.
Sometimes treatments seem to help, other times not. Most of the threads the OP never came back and gave updates, so we don't have any "data" to know what might work best, it's a shot in the dark.
I have not taken the time (nor the inclination really) to go back over the years and track down the threads, the treatments and any coincidences. I do know that Silkies seem more affected. The only other thing that has stuck out to me on a few is dipping the birds. Some reported worsening of the skin after dipping, so that's why I'd only use Permethrin dust instead of using a spray/dip. Is it a hard fact - no, I don't have enough info to say one way or another, but for me personally, I wouldn't dip birds (any breed) at all.
For me, the Chlorhexidine is antibacterial and antifungal, so there's that. The Miconazole/Clotrimazole are antifungal, but also in ointment form, so *should* help smother scaly face mites too if applied around the facial tissue. Ivermectin would take care of Face Mites, lice/mites in case those are an issue as well.
Hopefully at some point we may be able to find out more.
