I know that sometimes a turkey can lay a soft shell egg every once in a while when they are just starting out, but my Bronze Broadbreasted hen just gave me a head scratcher. She has only laid about 3 eggs total in the past month as she has just started laying, but last night she laid a 4th and then today, she laid two soft shelled eggs.
My husband saw one earlier this afternoon, but my chicken hens got to it before he could and later on this afternoon, I watched her lay another one but I grabbed it to look at before the other girls could get it.
I had been told earlier that turkeys only lay about once or twice a week but this was 1 hard and 2 soft in less then 24 hours. All her other eggs were hard shelled, in fact so hard they are hard to break open. She has access to oyster shell and all my girls are on a high protein laying feed for egg support.
I am still learning as I go so this has been a little confusing. Is there any reason I should be worried? Is there anything I should do to help her? Any advice would be great.
