About a week ago we started finding a single egg, here and there. Not like hidden in a slealth broody nest, but along the walkways and paths that the chickens use. The other day my DH found one laying by the back door.
So today I see a hen walking along a path and plop! egg falls out her behind. She never missed a step. Didn't look back, just keep walking.
Anyone know what causes this?
The girls are nearly 16 months old. Been laying fairly steady for 9+ months now, since they really never slowed down over the winter. I feel like they need a moult. Other than that I'm clueless.
I never imagined that just cuz I'm weird, it would rub off on my animals.

fun video...

I just wish that some of my pullets would start laying!

I dont have an answer for you but wanted to mention that my pullets are just starting to lay and i am finding some of my eggs in the run right where they walk.

Hopefully someone may be able to fill us in.

I think that the first couple of eggs are a surprise even to the pullet who lays them.

After the first couple in the run, my pullet who just started laying, then started laying in the nest like the other 3. If you have others who are already laying it is easier as they see them go into the nest and lay.

When they realize they are doing that too (laying eggs) - they follow the leader so to speak.

Good Luck!

Yes, but this is a hen that's been laying fine in the nestbox for some 9 months. She just this past week started dropping them. It's almost like she doesn't feel the urge coming on.
Egg incontinence *ugh*!
