Getting rid of roosters

I have no idea where you are located, & I butcher poultry. I butcher my own, but have been helping my Aunt with here's recently

Thanks for letting me know, I’m in Gorham. How much do you charge?

I might be able to make the drive if the extension can’t help. It looks like you’re about two 1/2 hours from me.

I was responding to @Slw.

I can't charge anyone, not licensed to butcher locally, so I can't do that. If I were to sell poultry for butchering, it has to be living birds, so an individual can do it themselves.

Would help for free, but I'm pretty busy right now, & working on getting a house.

I would love to get a license so I can butcher, & sell processed poultry though.

I didn’t realize, you needed a license to charge, thank you for explaining that.

I hope you get your license. I’ll watch for you posting info about it.

Good luck with your house shopping too. I hope you find exactly what you’re looking for.

Yep, every state is different, & in Maine, it's one that has certain requirements for butchering any animal for a price.

We already found a house, we're just working on getting a mortgage.

My understanding is that if you are butchering for a price, and the meat will not cross state lines, it's usually regulated by the state. If it's going to cross state lines then it's federal (under the USDA). Depending on the state there is still licensing and inspections, usually. And in some states you can do what is called "custom exempt processing" which may allow you to process for other people, their animals, that meat can go only to the owner of the animal, no outside sales. Some states may relax inspection requirements for that. We still retain the freedom to process our own animals for our own use with no regulation.
