One of my chickens laid a very weird looking egg today. It didnt have a hard shell and was squishy Ive never seen anything like this before!! When I opened it up it looked normal just the shell or lack of shell was weird any idea what happened!?! We have 3 chickens and they were laying between 3 and 4 eggs a day all together then about a week ago they all stopped laying then yesterday we got one egg (normal) then two today (one normal and one the weird one) .

Seems like that the pulley isn’t getting enough calcium. The shell is soft, which means that you should supply some sort of calcium. If you don’t want to buy oyster shells, you can use an egg shell and grind it in a blender, then add it to their feed.

Is this from a pullet? New layers in their 1st year can sometimes lay shell-less eggs. It happened to my girls a few times in their 1st year of laying.
If you read how eggs are formed as they pass through the chicken’s oviduct, an egg without a shell can form if the egg release timing is off. I won’t try to explain it cuz I’m sure I will butcher it, but if u search the forum or internet you can read about egg formation step by step. It takes I think 23 hours to form an egg fully.
As the other poster said, be sure to have plenty of calcium and as long as your girls are doing well otherwise and this only happens on occasion, don’t worry too much. These eggs are weird and kind of cool, I never knew that could happen either!

How old are your birds?
How long have they been laying?
What breed are they?
Was there a change a week ago...new feed or birds or predator?
4 eggs a day out of 3 birds?

I supply my birds with oyster shell and with their recycled eggshells. I rinse them and collect them in a Ziploc bag in a drawer in the refrigerator until the bag is full. Then I rinse them again with fresh water and bake in the oven at 220°F for 45 minutes or until dry and crackly.
Then I call them put them in another Ziploc bag and take out my aggressions on them with a wooden crab mallet. It is very satisfying. About twice a week I put a handful of them in the bowl that holds the oyster shell.

A few of my hens go crazy for them!

*leftover shells are great in the garden.
