Weird lump around breast area?????

I noticed that one of my girls had a big lump around the left bottom side of her neck??? Any ideas of what it might be??

New feathers shouldnt cause a big lump. When a chicken eats it stores food in the "Crop" and it can get pretty big

I think that it may be her crop. The crop is an enlarged portion of the esophagus that holds food until it can progress further down the digestive system. It often feels like a large lump after the chicken has eaten a lot, or before night (chickens eat more right before nightfall).

Sounds like the crop. But just keep an eye on it. You don't want to rule it out right away just incase it's not. The crop should empty over night so check the lump before it feeds in the morning to see if it is empty or not. If it's not empty it still could be the crop but it could be impacted (blocked)

If it is on the chickens left side it might be subcutaneous emphysema, which is a torn air sac under the skin resulting from an injury (or sometimes an infection.) If it is very large you can deflate it with an 18 gauge needle and squeeze the air out or withdraw it by a syringe. It may be reabsorbed by the body. On the right side it is probably the crop.
