weird nasally honk coming from chicken

I went to feed my chickens today, and I heard this weird high pitched honking noise. Then I discovered that it was My Arcana named Fender! I picked her up and it sounded like she had a stuffy nose, like, you could hear her inhale. but I didn't see anything stuck in her nose. or in her mouth. what could it be? shes never had this before. the only thing that was unusual today was that they tipped their food holder over and they were out of water.

My hen is making that noise too. I thought at first she was trying to crow cause I've heard they will do that sometimes. She kinda shakes her head first and acts like shes gonna sneeze. I was also wondering if it could be pollen/allergies because they've sure done a doozy on us humans. I hope someone who knows answers cause I've been really worried about her.

I have a barred Rock hen who's doing the SAME thing.. I've dubbed her lucy goosey.. because she sounds just like a goose honking! she does this mulitiple times a day and shakes her head like she's sneezed or is going to sneeze. This has been going on with her for about a month with me wondering what it was or if it will go away by itself. Please if someone has any idea I would love to know the answer!

I have a hen that does a sort of honking noise too sometimes. It's mostly when I've been feeding them, and I always thought that it might be that she ate too quickly and that's her way of coughing/sneezing to dislodge something in her windpipe. Not sure though, but she always does it when she's been gobbling too fast.

Count me in with the honking/sneezing type thing. Seems to happen every time I fill their feeders with that darned Flock Raiser feed. Next thing you know, it sounds like a flock of geese!

With the pollen count as high as it has been, I wouldn't worry too much if you hear this from your chickens a little more than normal.. Chickens can have allergies too.. I worried the first time I ever hear mine doing this but then i realized it was because their were either eating too fast and kicking up the dust from the feed or if they dunked their nares in water while drinking.. It could also be from dust, pollen, sand, or anything else that has tiny particles that can be breathed in... I would definitely keep an eye on the ones doing it if it's not "normal" for them until you can figure out a possible trigger (i.e. if they do it while eating/drinking or if it happens when it's sunny out and the pollen count is high but they don't when it's raining because it washes the pollen away)...

I agree with GreenGoddess it is a symptom of dust or pollen. Mine have done it from time to time as well, but they always get better after a rainfall. As long as it doesn't turn into a chronic issue, I'd attribute it to nasal irritants and nothing more.

OKAY, so I don't think this particular hen's is due to pollen. She seems to do it all the time, like atleast once an hour if not more often. She is the only one doing it though, and it is LOUD, and sounds just like a goose honking. Is there anything else that might make chickens do this?
