You would think that mold would wash off? It was like that the day it was laid. We didn't eat it just in case it was something bad. I think this was found in the box.

I have shaving in my nest boxes and sometimes the females will try to hide their eggs in the shaving. When I collect the eggs I check. I also have golf balls in the nest boxes and the females will try to bury the golf balls.

If it was missed for a day it could have been damp enough to start some mold growth.....and it could stain the shell.

Did you break it open to see how it looked inside?
