Some people just keep their adult birds on chick feed, or move to a high protein feed with free choice oyster shells on the side.My bag of chicken feed is almost done so could I finish that first or should I buy the other feed right away? Also they are seven weeks when should I switch them over to the other adult food?
Yes, you can finish the bag.My bag of chicken feed is almost done so could I finish that first or should I buy the other feed right away? Also they are seven weeks when should I switch them over to the other adult food?
OK I have golden comets which will start to lay pretty early so should I start them earlier? Some people just keep their adult birds on chick feed, or move to a high protein feed with free choice oyster shells on the side.
Some people feed plain Layer Feed. (I have roosters, so I don't do this)
The age for switching is between 5-6 months of age, that's when pullets start laying depending on breeds.
Golden Comets start laying as early as 3½ to 4 months of age.OK I have golden comets which will start to lay pretty early so should I start them earlier?
I knowGolden Comets start laying as early as 3½ to 4 months of age.
They don't have a very long lifespan unfortunately though.
At least you'll enjoy them while they're around.I knowthat has been on my mind since we got them.

That's awfully high protein for chicken chicks.Could be a possibility. I usually feed the Dumor 24% Gamebird/Chick starter grower feed. Also use the Farmer's Helper UltraKibble Ration which is 29% protein, & has more of the nutrients needed for better growth.
I feed it all the time, so I don't see what the concern is? The UltraKibble is a Ration you mix into regular feed to give them a boost of extra protein, plus extra Vitamins, & nutrients needed for normal growth. That's awfully high protein for chicken chicks.
