Weird Question

When free ranging do your chickens eat dog poo? MINE DOO(doo)!

It's really disquisting IMO. It's like a viscious cycle. My dog eats their poo, they eat his. I would clean it up, (I usually do) but it rained and rained so each dog poo is a puddle the size of a pancake. Anywho. My banty cochin, Fajita, will step in it. This drives me nuts. She has feathered feet, gross. To be honest, around september, when both my EE and my banty cochin were laying, only my EE would eat poo, and... wait for it... her eggs tasted better, they had a oranger yolk, the egg stayed compact, and the shells were harder.

So, here's the poll, do your chickens eat poo?

Mine don't. It sits in front of their door and they walk right past. I don't think they'd even want to eat the scratch or treats around it (though usually its presence indicates the removal of all edibles from the area).

That's really gross, it's grosser than eating the giant cockroaches in Florida, LOL. I don't think it would make my eggs seem appetizing, it's bad enough to get past the bugs!

I prefer the "what I don't know won't hurt me" approach. I know the cats and dogs poo out in the yard and the woods, but I hope to never find out that the chickens are eating it.

I hope my birds don't do this once they're big enough to free range a bit in the yard. I have a great dane, so it would be like a buffet!

Yep mine do it too and I think its the unused protein in the dog poo that they like, my dogs like chickens poo too and they keep everything clean in the yard...this way I dont have to worry about stepping in it anymore as it stays cleaned up...I have Great Py?Anatolian cross and when they poo they do it...LOL...and since my flock has grown no ticks either in the yard area but if you go past where they range you are free game for the ticks...no problem right now with the snow, but during the summer it is

if a little dog poo bothers you its a good thing you dont have cattle,ive seen chickens so happy eating that they are flinging it everywhere,funny and kinda gross at the same time
