Weird thing coming from their butts!!!!

Like I said......these chickens had been laying perfect eggs, daily, for months.
The only difference in their lives is this sustained, cold weather. (And less daylight, of course!)
When daylight hours shorten in the winter...........and chickens begin to 'not' lay
eggs daily...........what happens to the eggs, internally?
Are they just not produced somehow?

When the days get shorter the egg making mechanism is supposed to shut down...perhaps theirs is stuck? That is odd. That's why i would like to know if disease can cause the same thing, because it doesn't make sense that they would lay fine one day and then have thin shells the next. Maybe they are just slowing production gradually...weird.
