Got this girl yesterday. What is with these toes? The run is on a hill, but this isn't normal, is it?

They look like they've been squeezed through an old clothes wringer...definitely not normal, but probably not dangerous..how old is the chicken in question? I'd say an injury or birth defect would be the cause...I don't know of any diseases that cause turning of the toes...

Thanks for the reply. She is 6months. The pictures actually make them look not so bad.

I hope not. They look awful. I'd say it is probably an issue when she was in the egg. I could be totally wrong, but I'd say its nothing to worry about as long as she's doing alright with it

I just googled and read that insufficient riboflavin can sometimes cause this to happen, it is sometimes reversible in hatchlings, and can also be caused by incorrect incubation temps.

Sadly she was sold to me like this :( I didn't notice her feet yesterday evening cause the breeder was holding her, then when I got her home I put her straight on the roosting bar.

I really wouldn't worry too much but don't get anymore birds from the person. It shouldn't affect the hens day to day life, just doesn't look too nice. Can she roost with those toes?

They are all kinda in the roosting position lol. So she does fine.
I don't want to take her back or anything. I don't mind her foot problems.
