Weird ? - what would make a package of sausage blow up?

my guess , maybe if had to much water......sure i'm not the only one that has placed a can of pop in the freezer,and have it blow up.

If you place water in a sealed container , it will blow up.......but i would still throw it out.

Probably just has a lot of water in it, which expands as it freezes.

Just out of curiosity I've emailed Sara Lee, the makers of Jimmy Dean sausage. I'll let y'all know what they say.

BTW, I don't think it's water that's frozen. When I shake it you can hear the frozen sausage rattling around inside.

Okay, I took a pic but I'm not sure you can get a indication of size by the pic. Just keep in mind that I had to put a wooden spoon in front of it to keep it from rolling off the counter. I think it's stopped growing now, maybe even shrunk a little; but it still has the feel of a balloon.

I'm storing it in a ziplock bag, in the freezer. I don't want to throw it out until I hear back from the plant quality manager.

Even though I agree with EVERYONE to throw it out...curiosity would get the best of me. It begs to be opened!! Maybe not on your counter or in your kitchen, but perhaps outside, over a trashbag, with bleach or oxine handy should you need to sterilize yourself after. I would just like to SEE the contents for color, consistency, etc. This is where being science minded would get me into trouble.
