Feeding the horses Sat. afternoon and there was a baby deer standing near the stall that has one of my horses in it. Now this might not seem to wierd except for the fact that I have woven wire all the way around my pasture so it couldn't get in or out. All I can figure out is the Mom jumped the fence and had the baby then left. Opened the gate and let it go outside the fence. I hope and pray its Mom came back for it. I didn't see it anywhere around the past couple of days.

Don't worry, I am sure the Doe got her baby. They will hang out and wait, up to days, on their babies when they get separated.

Cool find - too bad you didn't have a camera =-)

eta And I bet that baby did come in with her instead of her giving birth to it inside the area.

If you have text messaging you can text it to your email address. Just enter your address instead of a phone number. Once it's in your email you can save it like any other attachment....and post it here so I can go "AWWWWWW!" lol.

The fawn would most likely have been ok. I volunteer with wildlife rehab here in Alberta, and we get A LOT of fawns. Most of the time they are just orphaned and still healthy, so we take the fawn out to a wooded area and play a recording of a fawn crying and sometimes literally within seconds a doe appears. She takes the fawn, doesn't care whether it's hers or not. It's common to see a doe with 3 babies hanging around the center. lol They just have that instinct to adopt fawns, and once a doe decides she wants it, she gets downright nasty about it until you let the fawn go to her. So I'm sure your little fawn would have cried once she was out the gate, and the mom would probably have been nearby looking for it or another doe would have responded to its call.
