Weirdest Things Your Chickens Have Done

Pics
I have a Orpington x Faverolle hen named Scramble that likes to give hugs. If I don’t obey her commands for the hugs she will peck me in the back, scrape her beak on my knee, or just jump on top of me to get my attention! She immediately calms down though once I duck down and wrap my arms around her. She’ll sit there with her neck and head over my shoulder or upper arms as happy as can be.

Picture of the adorable Scramble? :3

My hens were having supervised free range time and Snowball came running with a dead bird and she would not drop it, then I got it off her and Masie got it and ran as fast as she could away from me. In the end I got it from them. Hens are weird 🤣
They certainly are! My Shetland, Gladys, ambushes mice when they emerge from behind our greenhouse. When Penelope was still with us, she stalked rats! She was only a itty bitty bantam cochin.

I had a barred rock hen I took in from someone who had no idea she was a chicken. They had separated her from the flock when young because she lost a toe and needed care. She used to follow me around and when I would stop to pet the cats, she would lightly peck them on the head as well. She also thought she lived in the house, although she only went in to get a bath once.
I used to find my ex-battery hen, Connie, snuggled up on the bed with one of my cats 🐈 at least once a week. It was her greatest ambition to become a house chicken. And Gladys hid herself in our Christmas tree for 3 hours one time while I searched frantically for her. She didn't make a sound the entire time.

No roosters!: my seven hens will not go to the roosting poles at night, all of them crowd into one of the fairly large nesting boxes. This is causing problems now that they have started laying(they’re 4 nos old). Anyone have this problem and what can be done to get them on the poles!?
My ex-battery hens rarely roosted on their poles and almost always slept in a pile with Gladys and her sister in the nest box. Although it's not recommended, I left them to it. I wasn't going to begrudge them comfort after spending their entire lives up to the point I rehomed them sleeping and standing 24/7 in bare wire cages.

Aw! I also have a girl named Vanilla! She's s black and white partridge easter egger

I have also made the mistake of eating around the girls. Once I just got home from work and I sat in the chicken run to catch my breath (I am a bike commuter) and eat some ranch veggie straws. Before I knew it I had 7 pairs of eyes me hoping I'd share. When one fell, a spirited game of keep away ensued. Evidently chickens love veggie straws. Not that I'd add them to their treat list as they aren't healthy in the slightest lol
Ferdy, my head roo, LOVES dill pickles! He grabbed one once and ate it before I could take it from him. Now he begs pathetically if he sees the jar. I don't give in to him, of course.

I have two chicks inside right now that are in a clear tote to brood. They get out and follow the cats around. Also if a cat isn't sleeping next to the box where they can see them the get loud and obnoxious. Once one of the cats settels in the quiet down and go over next to the wall the cat is closest to and snuggle up.

That is hilarious! What a naughty girl, hiding in the tree!
