Weirdest Things Your Chickens Have Done

Once I brought my pb&j outside to eat near the birds, but I got tired of all the beady eyes watching me so I walked away and sat under a tree. Of course they all followed me. Dilly went for my sandwich, so I lifted it away out of her reach, only for Sweet Cheeks to go for it from the other side. I lifted my sandwich over my head, so Vanilla just climbed up my shoulder and grabbed it. 😑 bye bye sandwich. When she was done eating my sandwich, Dilly came and wiped her beak on my pants. 😂

Aw! I also have a girl named Vanilla! She's s black and white partridge easter egger

I have also made the mistake of eating around the girls. Once I just got home from work and I sat in the chicken run to catch my breath (I am a bike commuter) and eat some ranch veggie straws. Before I knew it I had 7 pairs of eyes me hoping I'd share. When one fell, a spirited game of keep away ensued. Evidently chickens love veggie straws. Not that I'd add them to their treat list as they aren't healthy in the slightest lol

I had a young rooster who was obsessed with a metal dog bowl. He would come out every morning and find it, dance with it, mount it (or try his best) and you know the rest. SO WEIRD! 😂
What is up with roosters and thinking inanimate objects are hens? I think I already said this on here but one of my roosters, Phoenix, loves a metal bucket. I have yet to figure out what the bucket is actually, it looks like a feeder but it came with a top like a waterer but it has no holes in the base for any water or food to go down (what is the point of that?) so it remains a mystery. Phoenix loves it regardless, though. He lays down by it, stares at it, purrs at it . . .

Perfect, coordinated planning done only by the Gallus gallus domesticus!

She was rubbing it in that she had stolen your food!

My Cochin Bantam rooster, Slate (who you can see in this week's picture on the home page), food-clucks at things that are not even food. He will pick up dried leaves, poop, drops of water, dead grass, sticks, and more random things.
My rooster, Charcoal, is so used to me bringing treats that he food-clucks the moment I appear in the yard. It's creepy- like he's telling the entire flock that I'm edible, lol.

I find it hilarious when young cockerels hump strange objects. I had one that took a particular fancy to a log and another who- although he never mounted it- consistently flirted (wing-dance) with a flower pot.
