Thought I saw muffs in the other pic. In US Pea comb and tufts, no tail are the thing, but in UK they have different standards. Muff are ok there I think I remember reading. Also someone on another thread gave a history of the Araucana and the Ameriaraucana (I can't spell) and aparently they both were developed from the same birds from South America, I think that's what I remember. Anyway, that's where the colored eggs originate from. Ravyn can probably chime in with more. I usually retain just enough information to confuse myself.

I don't breed, I just enjoy a rainbow flock so I learn a little bit about a lot of birds.

Anyway, she's cute! Enjoy.

Also, since I am new to the thread, just curious, are you a transplant or a native to Kenya?

Thanks for the feedback, PF. I did check out the SOP from the UK and it still mentions pea combs. Its not the end of the world, as i would just like some blue eggs, thats all. Her size is another issue though - small eggs won't cut the mustard with my customers, blue or not! I do like her though, and would still like some more, but i think i will wait until she begins to lay to see what I have on my hands. Waiting however, is not my strongpoint.

Interesting. I would love to visit there one day. We are retired military so we have been a few places, just not to Africa.

Kenya is pretty nice and well established for tourism, but if safaris are your thing, then Tanzania would be my preference.

Had she not been so darn expensive (including flying her up to Nairobi, from the coast) I wouldn't mind, but i was expecting that she'd be laying and that she was the real deal as i was told she was both

Finding another source here is proving almost impossible, so that adds to the frustration. Such is life... and no biggie in the grand scheme of things.

I mostly only travel around Michigan for work, back and forth to the office in Indianapolis, and down to my parents' house in south Texas.  Other than that I rarely get out.

That may be changing, though, as DH was drafted for the elite hockey team and will be doing 2 tournaments a month from now through April when they go to Nationals.  Never gonna get ANYTHING done around here, though...

Congratulations to DH! That's exciting, and sure to keep you busy.

Just figured your trips to South Texas brought you closer to NM than most folks in this thread.

I've only been out of Michigan a few times Basic training and Mayo clinic. Sad.....i wish i could travel now we got animals...and....my wife doesn't like to leave the house. If it was up me we would never be home.

Thanks for your feedback PF - here's a head shot No SOPs here in Kenya (or probably anywhere in Africa, I'd imagine) - chickens are either for eating or laying. Getting actual breeds is almost impossible, I'm sad to say.

Also understandable....you all don't really have the luxury of special birds when you want to feed yourselves. Howdy Chris...

Maybe there is a landrace worth developing and promoting? Birds adapted to the local conditions, but selectively bred for highest production and easy keeping.

My experience only numbers in the several hundreds of blue and green egg layers, but pea combs seem to be tied to blue egg in the Am/Ar/EE lines, and other combs to green. But under the green is the blue gene, so as long as she lays a non-brown egg you are off to a start.
