Welcome to my pond - Swim, wade, or sit on the bank

Uh...

Ultra odd.

I never in a jillion years would have thought that would come from that cross.
Right? I was flabbergasted when I realized just how melanistic that chick was. And it's not just the one, there are like 4-6 more in the brooder. Then there are some that have a brownish red tinge to them.

Did you know that this skin color is a sex-linked trait? It's sex-linked recessive, so females that get one copy from their fathers express it. These are probably females that inherited the recessive trait from their dads. Dads must be carrying it, from whatever was used to make them.
I did not know that, that's interesting. I do wonder what was used. I got the eggs at auction last year, I know there was FCM cause feathered legs but other than that I'm not sure. There was so much variety in the colors lol. That'd be cool if it was only females.

Good morning pond. Day 7 of work today and I'm running on fumes. Glad I'm off 2 days after this. Last night, around 2:30am, we woke up to pounding on our door. Turns out, one of DS's friends rolled his car about a mile from our house taking another kid home. The road was freshly oiled and chipped and he had no clue how slippery that could be. He slid and lost control on all the shale. Both kids are ok, nothing more than a couple minor scratches but the car is probably totaled. They ran the mile to our house, in the dark and were so worked up and nervous. We got both kids home safe, made sure dad of the driver knew what happened and bought some strong coffee in the morning.

I went to a school for one year that had a Scottish marching bad. They were very good, even beat the Scotts one year in a competition.
My high school band was The Scotts. We all wore kilts & spats & giant fur hats. During competitions they would bring a bagpiper in. The pipes still give me the chills.

With all of the excitement of kid 3 getting on a boat... and yes, he is now out on the boat...

I didn't mention that kid #1 is now accepted into seminary. :th

He will leave mid August.... it will be hard not having him here... our church is tiny, tiny, tiny..... he is our only Reader and Subdeacon... services will keep on... but... not as smoothly!

Just, WOW! Kid 1 is "old" now, and has been away from home on more than one occasion... but this leaving feels like it will be more permanent.

Ah well, we shall see!
Such bittersweetness going on at your place! :hugs
