Welcome to my pond - Swim, wade, or sit on the bank

Good morning pond. 25° here on my lily pad. DH took the kizashi to work so I skidded and slid up the hill to the bus stop this morning in the prius. Thankfully the plow came just before we had to leave. He didn't scrape the ice off the road but did dump a lot of salt on the hill so that helped :) We're hoping to have the AWD Lincoln operational again by next winter. That thing is a tank in the snow but at about 225K miles, it's really showing its age lol. Everyone have a wonderful day!

Two hour delay due to frigid temperatures (20, RF 12). I kicked a space heater in the darkness, and messed up my right foot at six. The throbbing is only dissipating now.
Sixties the next two days before returning to the low 40’s.

Hello, Pond -
DH had a surprise in one of the coops today (the one we call “the tack shed” because that was its original use”.) He called me on my way to work this morning and asked if I knew that I had a rooster in the tack shed. We had originally put the Andalusian in there, but DH found him dead under the roost a couple of weeks ago. This morning when DH went out to do chores, he heard a full-blown crow - not a wimpy starter crow - coming from the tack shed, answering the rooster in the other coop. He was totally surprised! I will have to go out there and check things out during the day tomorrow to see who our mystery man is.

Wow Good afternoon Pond.
Have to admit the time change is kicking my butt big time this round.
I have a hatch of 4 from my little incubator. 3 blue eggs, 1 blue marans and it is a cockerel.
He is sold.

Found the cockadoodler! He’s quite obvious. (Confession time - I clearly haven’t seen much of my chickens this winter.) I swear that bird was all grey, small combed and looked like a pullet just a couple of months ago…

While I was observing, I noticed that this one also looks a little suspicious..

Check out those hackle feathers and that stance.

I can’t really tell by the comb. The one in front is for sure a hen and her comb and wattles are similar.

The saddle feathers look like cockerel feathers to me.

What’s the consensus of the Pond?
