that's what I figure too cuz the only way she got in there was to fly in...... Why didn't she fly out..... And if she would have just floated I would have found her and got her out..... It's odd to say a three year old duck drowned. I've been fortunate not to lose any since the neighbor dog incident almost three years ago. If course I had that close call last fall with my dogs.... But i know that if your gonna raise birds eventually you will lose some. I've been fortunate. I haven't even lost any ducklings or chicks.... I still feel like I let her down.... I always do

also with the snow melt the pool was completely full it should have been easy to fly out.... I've watched them fly over 100 yards (six inches of the ground)...

Yeah.... I feel bad. Seems a few of us hand had losses lately.
I dumped that pool out. I just didn't even think something like that could happen. I guess the plus on the day is my Tigers won their opening day.

I lost a duck today......first one in three years..... I feel pretty bad. I feel like it's my responsibility to keep them safe and I've failed.
There's a kiddy pool of in the garden. With the snow melting they have been wondering around and apparently got in it and couldn't get out. She drowned.
I didn't even think of it..... When the pool is set up I put blocks in it so they can get in and out...... I feel so bad.... It didn't have to happen. I was inside watching the ballgame...... **** I'm so sorry. I have to go bury her now...... Thanks for listening.

Haven't been on the forum much due to a two day headache. Keeping up reading though, just not posting much.

Hey Oz! How's my favorite cop doing?

I lost a duck today......first one in three years..... I feel pretty bad. I feel like it's my responsibility to keep them safe and I've failed.
There's a kiddy pool of in the garden. With the snow melting they have been wondering around and apparently got in it and couldn't get out. She drowned.

You didn't fail her Phil, I felt that way when I lost Sebright, but I did fail her... even though....they were in an enclosed pen, the fox still scared her enough to make her break her neck or die of fright...had I locked the coop the night before they wouldn't have been out in their pen yet that next morning...

I try to take excellent care of my ducks..... They are my (and the neighborhood) pals....if a predator had gotten her I would be mad... I'm just sad. Predators I can't do much about. But for all the critters in the woods around here I've only had problems with dogs. But on the same note..... All the dogs running loose around here is why I don't have many predator problems during the day... At night my bird are in a pen that a bear would have trouble getting into.

It happens, still sucks but hindsight is always 20/20... don't beat yourself up, my friend... it was an accident... might have been the drakes??? That does happen occasionally...

I lost one of my original grey ducks the other day that I got from minihorse... she had one eye due to drakes roughing her up... anyways, I knew she had vision issues and hawks stalking our yard, but still let her free range with the others... hawk got her from her blind side... sucks, but I couldn't just lock her up while the others ran around... all I can hope is that she had a good life here til then...

Thanks Rav...... It really means alot coming from you.... I miss the late nights but since I've been on this insomnia medicine I sleep.... Actually too much. I'm thinking of stopping it for a few weeks.

My Ducks are spoiled.... I know she had a good life... It was one of my unnamed ducks.... Only 4 of my ducks have names.
The others look the same to me.... JD I can only tell her apart when she quacks
She's loud and has her own cadence. And of course there's Snowball she's my favorite.
