Sweet Sussex passed away last night in DDs arms.
Did a bit of a necropsy, but it was inconclusive -I really expected to find a screw, airsoft bbs or some blockage. Instead there was about 2 full cups of small rocks with a few blades of grass and hay mixed in. I wish I knew how it happened. Ah well, it is what it is. It's been a rough summer on the birds, so the promise of a cool down next week makes me hopeful that these kinds of things will slow down.

I hear ya. I went from almost 30 earlier this summer to 4 currently.

Last summer I didn't lose a single bird. This summer, I've kind of lost track... Things are bound to change though - right??

Yes - I vote for that change!

I was down and out with a migraine, ugh. Gonna be seeing my doctor about that on Monday since I've been having them more frequently lately. Might just be the changing of the seasons.

Heard from the boy who's out of the country - he's doing well and learning a ton. I think he enjoys the teaching part of this adventure more than the classes he is taking, but he seems really happy...completely unconcerned about the crazy dictator just an hour or so to the north.

Glad you heard from the boy and he's well.

They did well! He's good and working clearing trees so the electric company can get their crews in to restore power.

Our kids are patient with our worries - love it!

On a better note, the girls hatched all 5 chicks. The last egg that was a few days behind has been moved to the incubator (I did all my chores with it tucked in my bra, and didn't break it! lol)

So much to like about your posts in this one! Love the "reckless abandon"! Tell him if he starts it with "w" you'll like it even more!
We went through a fairly significant hawk phase here back when I was convinced i just wanted laying hens. It was ugly. For a while, I had fishing line, with Mylar ribbon tied to it, strung across almost 3 acres of property, which seemed to deter them. Then I finally broke down and got a rooster. And then i got more roosters. Don't get me wrong, we still get hawks that will perch in a tree and contemplate dinner, but my boys have been so good at getting the girls to run for cover - then screaming their ridiculous heads off that we haven't lost any more. Now, that said, we could have an attack today - they're roosters, not James Bond. Lol (although they probably think they're on par with Bond, those boys!)

Got a message from Debs this morning, her pain finally got bad enough, she went to the ER, but she wanted me to let everyone know. Will get an update when possible. Keep her in your thoughts/prayers

Even in all her pain, she's still so thoughtful.
