Welcome to my pond - Swim, wade, or sit on the bank

We are heading to the fair this afternoon. I think i could use a good break from reality anyways.

The fair will be my reality for the next week!! I stuck my foot in my mouth a couple years ago and volunteered to be the Poultry Superintendent. Mostly because there was no one else willing to do it, certainly not because I was most qualified!

State fair or local?

Sounds like a good way to spend the afternoon. Our local fair ain't for another two weeks or so.
County. We just did blood testing last week for all the birds coming. We aren't very big but we are expecting 40 batches of Pullet Chain plus a good number of "show" birds. The folks showing goats, pigs, etc. don't have to deal with nearly as many kids/families as I do. Poultry has more exhibitors than any other category but pulls in less money. Go figure.

It's funny Michigan doesn't have a state fair anymore.
But because the U.P. state fair is all privately funded.....they are now billing it as the Michigan State Fair.
Kinda weird how it all works. I am beginning to learn more about the financial side of the Fairs. I had never really thought about it until I ended up in the position. We have a State fair that we are connected to but there are other county fairs that do no tie themselves to the State fair for money/rules reasons I guess. We also have an Arkansas/Oklahoma State Fair which is not affiliated with the State Fair at all. They have their own rules/financial etc. Very confusing at times.

I'm not sure if PA has a state fair or not. I know there are lots of county and townships fairs though. Our township will be having there 74th annual fair the end of August.

Sounds like you'll be busy.

Yep. Parade is tonight. Monday is work day to set up/label cages. Tuesday Home Ec. enters, Wednesday night -Thursday morning poultry comes in, Friday Poultry Judging and 1st graders tour. Saturday Show Ring Awards. Oh and did I mention that I volunteered to bring in 2 llamas and 2 alpacas as an exhibit?

You may as well have included a couple of giraffes and camels, while you were at it

Actually....considering the U.P. is so sparsley populated.....the Fair is pretty impressive.

And people from all over come to check it out

Kersplash! Good morning Pond Scum. Fair week - I remember that. Did I ever tell the story about when my buddy and I sneaked into the 'stripper tent'?
