Welcome to my pond - Swim, wade, or sit on the bank

I prefer anything over mice. But I don't think this one was even big enough to eat a mouse. I probably should have left it alone, but anything near my chickens just feels like a threat.
Will look that one up, thanks.
I had to save a snake from my ducks yesterday.....poor thing didn't stand a chance....it was just a garter snake....pretty nice size one though.

I took several pics, but went thru them and don't have a better one of the head. I took that one outside, after I carried it out. I took the others right afterward, and still didn't want to get too close. :/

I should have just relocated it, I do feel bad, but I've still got some really small chicks out there. I'd rather be safe than sorry.

Don't feel bad... better safe than sorry...

As soon as I can find my dang book, I can look it up for you...

I also killed a little snake today. I know we have some snake lovers, and I let it be yesterday (ok, I lost it yesterday after getting a small glimpse of it) but if someone can tell me what kind it is, and what it may or may not do to my chickens, if I see any others, I may spare them.

Was only 18-20 inches long, about as big around as my finger.

Looks kinda like an oak snake to me. :idunno I've killed a few of those this year (they were eating all our eggs) one was longer than I am tall (I'm 6')

You can always google a dichotomous key for snakes (if theres one for your state, well and good) and follow that through. The only good snake is a dead one, on this continent

- they are feared with a vengeance, regardless of how harmless they may be.

Oh, and good morning everyone - tis in this neck of the woods at least

Too right - the rest of the week will have to be confined to monosyllabic grunts

And after all that, the keys go on about looking at butts and stuff and I'm not sure WV (or anyone, to be honest) would relish that though, so you find that book!
