Frost on the lily pad - good morning Pond.

Frost???? We are -25 F actual right now with a -35 F windchill. And people wonder why I have a good heating system in the coop "just in case".
Worst is, have to get ready to leave for a dr appointment soon. They've closed THE school (yep it's a k-12) because 90% + of the kids ride the bus and this cold it's just too risky if the bus should break down or get stuck. Not to mention some of the kids have driveways up to half mile long they'd have to run down. I think they close if it gets below -25 with the windchill.

@chickisoup you have my empathy. We are only facing teens and single digits for perhaps the next two days, and then back to mid 30's and low 40's. For us this is the winter that never happened.

Good day to everyone been busy figuring things out... last month on the 26 my BF son passed suddenly in his sleep we’re pretty sure it’s an overdose and he’s left three children behind...I really thought this chapter was over in my life time for grandkids and whatnot but now there’s a 12 year old girl, 8 yr old boy, and 7 year old boy who are going to be huge in my life...and I’m okay with it...I care deeply for these children heck the whole family but it’s been awhile since I’ve had a house full of kids...their city kids lol I’m bout to make em country bumpkins lol there pretty excited about the chickens think I’m gonna go ahead with incubation for the experience for them...from incubator to raising to harvesting unwanted cockerels...so here’s to being a Grandma mommy wish me luck lol

Chicki, our school is also K-12 in the same building. After being closed Wednesday due to blizzard conditions, we were 2 hours late yesterday because of the windchills. It was still a “feels like” temperature of -42 when we all got to school. It’s already 10 above today, supposed to get into the 20’s.

As much as I think I’d like a “winter that never happened”, I know I’d miss the coming of spring. There’s just something about the snow melting and looking for those first green shoots poking out of the ground. Oh, and savoring the warmth of the sun that first day you can actually feel it. I love all those things. I’ll admit to getting tired of the mud. We have a long gravel driveway, so there is a lot of it.

Good Morning, Pond!
No school today (scheduled day off) so we’re heading to Iowa to help DS and DIL pack up and move their belongings to a storage unit until they can get into their new house in 3 weeks. (This is not the son and family who are moving closer to home in the spring.) Son has an hour commute to work right now. That will be cut in half once they get moved. I may be doing Grandma duty more than packing duty, but that’s OK. I like spending time with the granddaughters.
