Welcome to my pond - Swim, wade, or sit on the bank

We peaked at a whopping 110* here today. The coop is 115*. We had to relocate the quail to kennels under the house. The garage is 105 & its 88 and rising quick inside the house. :hitI need to get the beetles out of the garage & under the house before they start cannibalizing themselves in this heat.:he

As of this morning the Valley Fire has eaten over 4,000 acres. Between the fire & the heat, the humane society is working like crazy to get animals evacuated into safe & cool zones.

*Deb did you know that all of the humane society campus’s are open to the public as cool zones? I don’t know if you’ve seen the new campus downtown, but it’s big & it’s nice. If you get too hot head over there. They have a large cat room that you can watch the kitty’s play.
Insane!

:old

Up here rainy, cold, everything is turning to brown.

I believe they're stocked as fingerlings. There's a weir in nearby Racine where they're stripped of their eggs on their way back to the river they were stocked in, where they'll die. I believe that's how it works, anyway
We have a spot that is stocked with Salmon, must be something that is done a bunch. :idunno

This winter, if I ever complain about the cold, please remind me of this.

were good temperature wise here in the house. Central AC. But even up at the house in the desert I am good up to about 115 . There is always a breeze and shade. The chickens are doing quite well in those temps. They tend to lay low napping through the heat of the day. Even laying eggsies like crazy.

I use rice hulls and it stays fluffy no matter what. Shaded water to keep it cooler and deep so the water is even cooler if they take a deep drink.

We bring up three gallons of water each time we go up and have never found one of their tubs dry. We keep two of those large black tubs for their water they are about six inches deep. I do that so I can fit in a float valve for stock tanks. Right now the water isnt working well so we haul it. Once we can get a good hookup outside then the automatic waterers go in.

If you can run a tarp across and above your coop area it will help deflect direct sun exposure. My coops are six by twelve with a tarp cover if we are expecting rain or cold. Other than that one side has a wind break in the form of Plywood. Fresh Air to the max. Even if its hotter than Hades a good stream of clean un stuffy air is very good.

I heard on the national news that somewhere around the Los Angeles area it was 121 degrees.
