Saturdays are wonderful and stressful all rolled into one. It's really my only day off, and with spring outdoor work to do, I just know I will maybe only check off one or two things... If I don't get sucked into this comfy couch...

I finally went back to the garden center today to see if the little white nosed koi was still there. They grow so fast I figured it might be moved up to the more expensive tank or sold & then I could stop thinking about it, but it was still there.

I saw it had a close friend, but I was going to prove to my kids that I could come home with only one fish. I was determined... I could refrain from the temptation... I was strong... I would not be defeated...

Then I saw that they were the only two fish left in the tank.


The poor things were terrified. They were no longer the happy, go lucky, little guys I had seen a few weeks ago. They were alone in a giant tank & had watched all of their buddies disappear one by one into the unknown. You can imagine there was no way I could leave just one scared fish alone. They both had to come home with me. I feel like such a chump.

So now there are nine, plus the giant goldfish, the zillions of rapidly procreating mosquito fish & the turtle. I honestly have no idea why my husband hasn’t left me yet.

Have you had a roo that did that?

I didn't (generally don't have roos and if I do they're woosy Aussies) but my neighbor did. Like I said earlier, I was taught that they believe it's one of those mostly bred out either by accident or design that just kind of pops back up occasionally.

They're sort of like the GQF brooders, but they suck, lol.

when I saw them at TSC, I was stunned! Talk about adding to the stress they've already been put thru. Ridiculous.

In my experience it has only happened with a dominant hen refusing to accept a new rooster/cockerel as dominant. Once the male achieves dominance they seem to see the hen as a competitor rather than a potential mate. Again in my experience this has not happened in free range birds where the hen has enough space to stay out of the rooster's way.

I think your theory makes as much sense as the theory that I was taught.

Actually at my TSC they seem to be working fine. Chicks are warm and not complaining, but they are hard to see, and maintenance is a bear.

Morning Pond lilly pad here is warm started a nice fire this morning last peice in now.. Dry here. Did manage to get the new tarp 20 x 30 big enough no gaps for the wind to take .. BF's little shed is solid as get out in front of it
