Both devastating news, great news (thanks to your son and DIL for their work), and great granddaughter!Good Afternoon, Pond!
So much going on here.
My DS2 and family live in Spencer, IA. I don’t know if you’ve heard, but Spencer is experiencing devastating flooding. Fortunately, they live north of the river, so their home is safe. But they have no sewer service (wastewater treatment plant has been without power since Saturday), and there are conflicting reports about whether or not the water in town is potable. DIL has packed up the boys and they’re heading our way to spend some time at the farm. She’s emotionally spent. Their church is the main shelter on the north side of town. DS was there all night last night helping, and she was there all day yesterday. They have someone sheltering there who is 104 years old. They have friends who have lost everything.
Meanwhile here at camp… this morning two of the little boys decided to go on the girls’ side of camp, past the chapel. Before their counselor could correct them, they came running back the other way. Right behind them was my granddaughter (8), arms crossed, finger pointing, telling them where they should be! When the boys’ counselor got out there, she said to him, “Cheeky boys!”
Grandson is finally feeling well enough that he should be able to come out tomorrow for the 2 1/2 days left. Along with the strep, he had some, uh, uncontrollable intestinal issues. Dr. thinks it could have been colitis possibly caused by the strep infection.
I just got up from a nap. I have an amazing kitchen crew and we were done with lunch cleanup and had supper prep ready by 2:30. I think it’s going to be a good week.
I saw a little of that on the news. Devastation for sure. Fortunate your family's place was spared. Between the flood and the heat wave, a large portion of the country is really suffering. Out temps are gonna be 102° for a week, where our average for this time of of year is only 94. It's all gone crazy. Our weather person said el nino is ending and la Nina is kicking in, or vice versa, I can't remember which is which.Good Afternoon, Pond!
